Okta Workflows Object Functions Explained: Get, Set, Zip, Collapse, Merge & JSON Objects

In this video, we deep dive into Okta Workflows Object Functions and learn how to work with JSON objects, API responses, nested data, and structured identity information inside Okta Workflows. This is part of my Okta Workflows Control In Depth series, where I explain Okta Workflow functions using real IAM, Identity Security, API, JSON, and automation use cases instead of random examples. In this tutorial, I use a realistic external REST API response that returns user identity data, risk score, MFA status, OAuth context, application access request details, device trust information, entitlements, and workflow decision data. Then I show how Okta Workflows Object Functions help extract, build, transform, and prepare that data for automation. We cover practical use cases for Okta Workflows Object Functions such as: Getting specific values from a JSON object Extracting nested fields like user email, risk level, manager email, and requested app Building clean audit objects from API response data Understanding Object Zip with keys and values Understanding Object Collapse with key/value pair lists Working with structured JSON objects inside Okta Workflows Preparing object data for Slack, Google Sheets, ticketing systems, audit APIs, and helper flows Transforming raw API responses into clean workflow outputs Example scenario: A user requests access to a Finance Reporting App. Okta Workflows calls an external risk API and receives a JSON response containing the user profile, MFA status, risk score, requested role, device trust, OAuth scopes, and workflow decision. We then use Object Functions to extract the fields we need and build a clean identity-risk audit object that can be used later in the workflow. This video is useful for anyone learning: Okta Workflows, Okta Workflow Functions, Okta Object Functions, Okta API Connector, Okta JSON parsing, IAM automation, Identity Security automation, REST API integration, OAuth automation, access request automation, and workflow automation. If you are an IAM Engineer, Identity Engineer, Okta Administrator, Okta Consultant, IGA Engineer, Security Engineer, or preparing for Okta certifications, this video will help you understand how to use Okta Workflows Object Functions in a practical way.
