After the discovery of the Americas, millions of Africans were enslaved. In 1930, Haile Selassie became Emperor of Ethiopia. Defeated by Mussolini in 1935, he regained his throne thanks to the resistance, supported by the Rastas. In return, he offered them land in Shashamene.
