Manish Gupta (45), son of businessman Ramkishore Gupta, a resident of Balaji Dham in the Phulkhana police station area, worked as a broker in the grocery market. During this time, he met Niharika Kashyap, a teacher at a school on Birhana Road. They grew close, and with the consent of their families, they were married on June 30, 2017. The couple has a six-year-old son, Riyansh. According to the family, Manish left his job as a broker after marriage. Later, the family arranged for him to set up an office in Ramganj and involved him in the camphor supply business. The deceased's father, Ramkishore Gupta, alleges that about three years ago, Niharika met a young man from Jammu through social media. Gradually, their conversations increased, and they began corresponding over the phone for extended periods. The family claims that when Manish learned of this, he objected, leading to frequent disputes between the couple. According to the police, the investigation revealed that on the afternoon of June 5, Niharika was talking on her mobile phone. Manish saw her, and an argument ensued. It is alleged that as the argument escalated, Niharika stabbed Manish multiple times in the stomach with a kitchen knife. Hearing the screams, family members rushed to the scene and immediately took the injured Manish to Birhana Road Hospital, from where he was referred to Hallet Hospital. He was treated there for approximately 11 days, but died on Tuesday morning. Ramkishore Gupta claims that upon regaining consciousness in the hospital, Manish told him that Niharika's alleged lover was on the phone during the incident. The family alleges that after the attack, the woman recounted the entire incident over the phone, and the other person allegedly incited her to kill her husband. However, the police are investigating this claim as well. The family also stated that the couple's relationship had been strained for the past few years. About a year and a half ago, Niharika went to the women's police station and accused her in-laws of dowry harassment. At that time, a settlement was reached between the two parties after police mediation. Police said that a case of attempted murder was registered on June 14th based on a complaint from Manish's father. Following the victim's death, charges of murder have been added to the case. The accused wife has been arrested and sent to jail. The in-laws have accused the woman of committing the crime at the behest of her alleged lover.
