How To Avoid A Super Bowl Sunday MELTDOWN
We’re doing Super Bowl Sunday at home — not because of autism, but because we don’t want to spend a lot of money and it’s honestly more fun this way. In this video, I show exactly how we set the day up so it works for our whole family, including our two autistic sons with very different needs. A lot of parents believe that big, loud days like the Super Bowl automatically mean stress, meltdowns, or avoiding life altogether when autism is part of your family. This video shows a different approach — not avoiding life, but designing it. You’ll see how we: • Plan food that supports regulation (including gluten-free choices that work for everyone) • Include both of our autistic sons in different ways based on what each of them actually enjoys • Learn how to watch football together — even though we don’t understand the game ourselves • Keep expectations low so the day stays enjoyable instead of fragile This isn’t about forcing participation or pretending autism doesn’t exist. It’s about creating a normal, full day that works — even on something as busy and loud as Super Bowl Sunday. If you’re a parent navigating autism and trying to expand your world without burning out, you’re not alone. 🔗 CHAPTERS/TIMESTAMPS 00:00 – Can Autism Parents Have a Normal Life? 00:24 – Why We’re Doing Super Bowl at Home 00:44 – Why Public Meltdowns Change Family Life 01:08 – How We Design Days That Actually Work 01:35 – Two Autistic Kids, Different Needs 02:02 – Letting Each Child Thrive Their Own Way 02:24 – Autism and Food: Why It Matters 03:00 – Gluten and Behavior in Autism 03:25 – Why Helping Regulates Our Verbal Son 03:47 – Different Needs, One Family 04:18 – Choosing Autism-Friendly Game Day Food 05:44 – Reducing Parent Stress on Big Days 06:44 – Teaching Football to a Nonverbal Child 07:12 – What Inclusion Really Looks Like 07:44 – Participation Without Pressure 08:09 – Why Autism Doesn’t Take Away Normal Life 08:33 – What Actually Prevents Meltdowns 08:57 – How to Have a Calm Super Bowl at Home 09:20 – Redefining Normal Family Life With Autism 🔗 FOLLOW OUr JOURNEY 📸 Instagram: / autismloveclub 🎵 TikTok: / autismloveclub ▶️ YouTube: / @beyondboundariesfamily #SuperBowlSunday #AutismFamily #NeurodiverseFamily #ParentingAutism #SpecialNeedsParenting #FamilyLife #AutismRealLife
