How to Form a Cadet Beret - 211 RCACS

Hello, I am WO1 Thibeault of 211 Ottawa Kiwanis Royal Canadian Air Cadets, and I will be teaching you how to properly alter, shave and form a beret. The big thing for berets is moving around all of the wool until it’s where you want to be. Move all the wool you can over to your right hanging over, and then worry about the shape by grasping your cap brass in a fist and moulding the shape around that. If you do not cut out the liner and trim unnecessary cardboard protruding from the back of the cap badge or brass, you will struggle to get a beret as good as those who do, however it is very possible. A beret is a skin contacting item, meaning like a t shirt or socks, can’t be retracted and re-issued by supply, you may alter it as you please to get a better result unless prohibited by your chain. The more times you shape a beret and then allow it to dry on your head, the more reinforced and better it will be. Your beret should perfectly take to the shape of your head. For placement, it’s an inch above the eyebrow, for most that’s measurable by 2 finger widths, and the sweatband is parallel all the way around, no angling down towards the right like many do.
