How To Measure Pants——ApparelWin

Hello everyone, welcome to our ApparelWin channel, I’m Lily. Things is recently I fund some clients were not quiet clear about how to measure the pants. Whether you're an aspiring fashion project manager or you're just tailor, knowing how to measure your pants can come in handy. So I record this video and hope it’s helpful. Pants are usually defined by three key measurements: waist, inseam, hips, front and back rise and leg opening. Knowing pant measurements makes it easier to work with your supplier, saves you the time you would otherwise have spent in the communication with them. The first thing, measuring tool, I recommend the measuring tape. These portable, flexible tools are your best friend when it comes to measuring your pants. Second, measure the waist of pants. To get the most accurate measurement of pant’s waist, you can lay the pants flat on the floor. Smooth the pants out so there is no bunching. Don’t stretch the pants, though. Measure flat across the back waistband from one corner to the other. Double the number to get the actual waist size. And if your pants are lying correctly, the front part of the waistband will be resting slightly below the back. The third step is measure your front rise. To measure the front rise of your pants, start at the bottom center of the crotch seam and measure up to the top of the waistband. Rises usually range from 7 inches (180 mm) to 12 inches (300 mm). After you get the front rise, turn the pants back and get the back rise. Its almost the same, from the crotch seam and measure up to the top of the waistband. Fourth, measure the hips. The most important things is to define where the hip is. Some people measure across pants at the base of the zipper, but usually we measure from 20cm below the waist. Make sure that you go to the edge of each seam. Once you’ve measured the front, double the number to get the whole measurement. When measuring your pants on the floor, make sure to measure from the outer stitching of each seam. And the fifth step, measure your inseam. Starting from the crotch, where the pieces of fabric in your pants intersect, draw the measuring tape down the inside of one leg and to the very bottom of the pant leg. The last step is to measure the leg opening.
