Vintage Christmas Gift Guide - For Him | Carolina Pinglo
Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE and to give this video a THUMBS UP if you liked it! Hello! After many...MANY technical difficulties my for him gift guide is FINALLY here! I had to do voice overs for some of the clips because the files went missing, so I apologize for that. As you can probably tell, finding gifts for him is more challenging that items for her. Even when filming this video I didn't have much to say about the items compared to the for her version. Probably because with the for her version I just thought of items I would like myself haha. Like I mentioned in the beginning of the video, I really wanted to bring things back to a previous generation that appreciated small thoughtful gifts. In victorian times gifts were very modest like; Fruit, Candies, nuts or small handmade trinkets for the christmas tree. In the 1920s handmade socks, mittens, scarves were common gifts. After WWII there were Christmas ads advertising type writers, Electric shavers, perfume and kitchen electrics as gifts. But even in that time period people received those types of big presents from their spouse as a singular gift and things were much more appreciated and used for YEARS (Things were also made to last a long time back then.... but thats another conversation) Things are totally different now and its common to receive multiple things (Especially children and teens) I've been guilty of this, if you've seen my old "what I got for Christmas videos" I've shown many pieces of clothing that I received for christmas and looking back on those most of the items in this videos I don't own anymore. I've Always been into history but as I got more and more into vintage fashion I did more research on how people lived in the past, and the idea that people appreciated the items they were given was prominent. Last year is when things started fitting together for me. In Dec 2018 my grandmother suddenly passed and I inherited all of her old photo albums, I always loved looking through them and its something we did a lot when I would go visit her. I remember her showing me the photo she had gifted my grandfather for valentines and I saw it again. I also found other photos with messages/love letters on the back in photo frames when cleaning out her apartment. Another things that helped tie things together was watching Anne with an E. Set in the 1890s, s the characters were much more modest in the amount of items they posses. Anne owned 2 dresses, Marilla tresures her brooch (Family heirloom) and Mathew has his pocket watch. They clearly used those items enough for Rachel to recognize them at the pawn shop. Even Diana re-wears items thought the show even those she comes from a wealthier background (Love that detail) All of those facts tied it all together. It makes me sad that the sentimental connection to items is sort of lost? I'm sure many do treasure their possessions, but at an age of social media where we see people getting the new Iphone every time it comes out (Even tho their old phone was perfectly fine) and buy all these designer items just for the sake of showing it off on social media is kinda sad. I wonder If there is a connection between this and how people treat/value relationships?...... wow i never thought about this before... I need to do more research... ok this description box is getting long hopefully you get what I'm saying! leave your comments for discussion below! Thank you!
