MEGGA Stranglers LIVE Battersea Park 1978 - BASS ACE Jean-Jacques Burnel - Rattus Norvegicus
"Rattus Norvegicus comes to Battersea Park, Ladies and Gentlemen , The Stranglers." The Stranglers LIVE - WITHOUT QUESTION the Strangers were one of the MOST DYNAMIC & Greatest bands to emerge from the Rock 'n' Roll explosion of the late 1970s' 80's punk scene. with the line up of: HUGH CORNWALL on Guitar/vocalist and backed up by Ace Drummer JET BLACK were both above reproach, while the CRUNCHING BASS of Legendary JEAN-JACQUES BURNEL and backed up by the Swirling Keyboards of MR DAVE GREENFIELD - they were heading straight to The HALL of FAME ! BASS ACE:- Jean-Jacques Burnelis is noted for his distinctive bass guitar sound and melodic bass lines. These are particularly prominent on earlier Stranglers recordings produced by Martin Rushent, such as the hit singles "No More Heroes" and "Peaches". In the early days, Bass Ace Burnel's distinctive aggressive sound was created using a Fender Precision Bass with RotoSound roundwound strings played with a plectrum very close to the bridge, through Hiwatt all-valve amplification. However the defining factor was the use of a Marshall 4x12 speaker cabinet in which the speaker cones were ripped, creating a distorted sound. Later, Burnel used a Yamaha BB2000, a Steinberger L2 (headless), and a Kinkade acoustic bass. Burnel currently plays Shuker JJ Burnel signature basses custom-built in England by Jon Shuker. Burnel was one of the first bass guitarists to use Trace Elliot amplification when the company began production in 1980. Burnel now uses amplification by Ashdown Engineering who have honoured him with his own JJ500 signature amps. The Strangers went on to great legendary music and mega hits including: Strange Little Girl Golden Brown Tank Something Better Change Peaches 5 Minutes No More Heroes (Get A) Grip (On Yourself) The list goes on ............... The Strangers are a Band with LEGENDARY Status ! - FACT Filmed here in Battersea Park London way back in 1978. We at IDP Film salute everything they stood for then & now their music is what the late 70's / 80's & 90's were all about !
