Pinto do Monteiro is considered by many to be the greatest repentista poet ever, and the truth is that he is part of a celebrated group of poets and repentistas who to this day maintain the aura of the great poets who reigned supreme in the Northeastern backlands, singing late into the night in farms, cities, and towns, bringing an art that they immortalized, and their verses are remembered and applauded to this day.
