Automatic Train Operation Changed the Thameslink Core Forever
In this 10 minute documentary, I go through a deep dive into Automatic Train Operation or (ATO) for short. ATO is a system where the train works automatically by itself without the driver needing to supervise. ATO has been equipped on several national rail lines, including Thameslink, which is going to be our main focus for today. ATO on the Thameslink Core has first been introduced between Kentish Town and St Pancras International in March 2018, making it the first application of Automatic Train Operation to be applied on a Mainline Railway, with the next stage of Thameslink ATO being introduced between Finsbury Park and London Bridge at the end of the month in 2018.
