“Hilliard’s Son” was written in honor of Firefighter James “Kevin” Crews of the Hilliard Volunteer Fire Department, Station 4, who gave his life in the line of duty on April 23, 2026, fighting wildfire in Nassau County, Florida. I did not know Kevin personally, but I know what kind of man answers that call. He was a brother, a protector, and a hero. As a combat veteran and fellow Southerner, I wrote this song to honor his sacrifice, his family, his department, and every firefighter who stands between their community and the flames. This song comes from a place of love, grief, and respect. Not profit. Not attention. Just tribute.
