European bison in winter in Białowieża Forest - wildlife photography in one of Europe’s last primeval forests. 🌳 Białowieża Forest, located on the border of Poland and Belarus, is one of the last large remnants of Europe’s primeval lowland forests. At its heart lies Białowieża National Park, the strictly protected core of this ancient ecosystem and one of the most important refuges for the European bison (Bison bonasus). 🦬 In this film I spend several winter days searching for and photographing European bison in the snowy landscapes of Białowieża. Fresh snowfall, frost, mist and rapidly changing winter weather create constantly shifting conditions, turning the same forest scenes into completely different photographic opportunities. Along the way we encounter solitary bulls moving across open snow-covered fields, winter herds of females with calves, and feeding areas where bison gather during the coldest months. The film also explores how conservation efforts helped bring the European bison back from extinction in the wild and how these animals live today within a landscape shaped by both nature and people. 📸 Wildlife photography rarely follows a perfect plan. Some moments bring beautiful encounters and ideal conditions, while others require patience, long hours of searching, and accepting whatever the forest reveals.
