Regional train 10027 hit a truck stopped on the tracks at a level crossing. The violent impact caused the locomotive and two carriages to derail, ending up in nearby fields. A utility pole was knocked down and high-voltage cables severed. A gatehouse was also nearly hit. Two people died and 23 were injured, three of them seriously, including the train conductor, who underwent emergency surgery overnight to stabilize a fractured pelvis. The operation was successful. Darius Zujis, the 39-year-old Lithuanian driver of the truck, is under investigation for the train crash. The man, who reportedly tested negative for alcohol, will be questioned by the prosecutor's office.
