In order to lay a beautiful lawn in my garden, I first tried to make the base soil. However, my garden is made of extremely hard clay, so hard that even a pickaxe wouldn't make any cut... I gave up on digging by hand and finally brought in the hammer drill! I dug down to the target depth of 30-40cm, sifted the excavated soil, and mixed in large amounts of sand, bark compost, zeolite, and lawn topsoil to create the ideal base soil. I also used a bold technique to improve drainage by drilling holes in the storm sewer pipe that runs under the garden, creating a simple underground drainage system.
