The case of Henri Borel, a 4-year-old boy killed by his stepfather. According to the medical report, he suffered 23 lacerations all over his body, with internal bleeding and a skull fracture. The crime was committed by his stepfather, at the time a congressman in Rio de Janeiro, known as Jairinho. Monique, the mother, was accused by the Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecutor's Office of aggravated homicide. The event, which occurred in 2021, shocked the country. Especially because evidence emerged that Monique was negligent, that she allowed Jairinho to constantly abuse her son, and that she tried to cover up evidence. Furthermore, the selfie with a sad face taken at the police station became infamous, as did the scene of Monique leaving the beauty salon… one day after her son's funeral. Now, in May 2026… Jairinho was sentenced to 43 years in prison. Monique was convicted by the jury of manslaughter, and subsequently… received a judicial pardon.
