This is communal because the human mite can transfer from one person to another by skin contact or clothing used by infected person. Treatment modality includes itch control, infection control with oral antibiotic and or topical antibiotic (pinapahid). Mainstay is permethrin lotion which is applied from neck down all over (cannot be applied to open wound) for 2 nights one week apart and washing off in the morning. The permethrin should have stayed 8 hours on the subjects skin surface. All household members should be treated and clothes hung under the sun, boiled, or run in hot water to eliminate mites and eggs. Cooperation is key.
