Title: Practical Implementation of Internally Cured High-Performance Cement Mortar Using Superabsorbent Polymers Presented By: Chibueze Ajuonuma, Purdue University Description: This research evaluates the practical implementation of internally cured high-performance mortar utilizing superabsorbent polymers. Influence of mixture composition on the internal curing performance of cementitious composites containing commercial SAP formulation - 0.2% SAP, Type IL cement and slag-cement (30, 40, 50% bwoc.) at w/c ratio 0.35 were cast and investigated. Characterization is done by assessing fresh properties, hydration kinetics, strength properties, thermogravimetric analysis, water absorption, shrinkage and durability properties. The SAPs were carefully dosed to optimize internal water release, promoting continued hydration of the slag and improving long-term strength development. The results indicate that SAP-modified slag-cement mortar effectively reduces early-age shrinkage, enhances hydration efficiency, and improves moisture retention, leading to superior durability characteristics. These findings provide valuable insights into the scalability and real-world application of internally cured high-performance mortar in sustainable infrastructure development.
