"The Ice Demon" is a story originally published in April 1933 in Weird Tales, as part of Clark Ashton Smith's Hyperborean Tales: a world before history, fabulous and lost, where magic is as ancient as the ice that covers the fallen kingdoms. In this story, Smith imagines the silent vengeance of a living glacier, capable of devouring armies, altering the landscape, and stalking men like a nameless polar god.
