The Paris Jewel Heist - What's Been Stolen from the Louvre?

Several significant pieces of French royal and imperial jewellery were stolen from the Louvre’s Gallery of Apollo in a daring daytime heist. The stolen items, all from the nineteenth century, include treasures from the collections of Empress Marie Louise (Napoleon’s second wife), Queen Hortense, and Empress Eugénie. Among the stolen pieces are Marie Louise’s emerald necklace and earrings, part of a set made by Napoleon’s court jeweller; a sapphire and diamond tiara, necklace, and earring from Queen Hortense’s set; and three items from Empress Eugénie: the Reliquary brooch, a diamond bow, and a pearl and diamond tiara. The Empress Eugénie’s crown was also taken but dropped and damaged during the theft. These jewels are highly distinctive and historically significant, making their resale difficult. The theft is extraordinary given the security and prominence of the collection, and there is hope for the quick recovery of these irreplaceable artifacts.
