Join us as we welcome Kendel Ehrlich, former First Lady of Maryland and Executive Director of the American Journalism Institute. Kendel Ehrlich brings decades of experience in criminal justice, public policy, government leadership, and political advocacy. As Maryland's First Lady from 2003 to 2007, she traveled extensively across the state championing initiatives focused on drug abuse prevention, education, and hospice care. She was also a key strategist and advisor during former Governor Bob Ehrlich's successful campaigns for Congress and Governor. A former prosecutor and criminal defense attorney with more than 14 years of legal experience, Kendel later served in senior leadership roles during the Trump Administration. She was Deputy Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), helping oversee national anti-drug initiatives and federal grant programs. She subsequently served as Director of the SMART Office at the U.S. Department of Justice, managing a staff of 20 and more than $20 million in grant funding. In the final months of the administration, she also led the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), overseeing approximately $7 billion in federal grant programs. Today, Kendel serves as Executive Director of the American Journalism Institute and co-hosts the popular podcast Bottom Line with Bob and Kendel Ehrlich. She and Governor Bob Ehrlich are the proud parents of two sons, Drew and Josh.
