Over the past five years, fire has destroyed more than 3 million hectares of forest in British Columbia. An unusual pilot project has been launched in the southern part of the province to try to reduce the impact of fires. Cattle, ruminants with an insatiable appetite, are being introduced into high-risk areas where grass becomes a dangerous fuel in late summer or during periods of drought.
