Wild Camping Mournes

A wild camp in a favourite spot in the Mournes with Alfie (for the third time). Starting from Meelmore Lodge to Hare's Gap, along the Brandy Pad and down along the Kilkeel River. The breeze dropped away in the evening and the midges were a torture until the wind picked up after midnight. Alfie enjoyed jumping and swimming in a large rockpool in the river. I had the misfortune to slip while filming, landing in the water with my camera which was out of action for the rest of the trip (working okay now though). I kept walking around camp to avoid the midges, which added 10km to the trip, and in the dark stepped into the rockpool - going up to my knees. So not the best evening I have ever had wild camping😊 The next day was fresher with showers as we continued along the river to Ben Crom reservoir and then climbed back up to Hare's Gap.
