June 2, 2024: Be careful of parking lots and gravel! While Takinoue and Higashimokoto are famous for their moss phlox in Hokkaido, I visited Mishima's Moss Phlox Garden in Kutchan Town for the first time, which is an easy day trip from Sapporo. The combination of Mt. Yotei and the moss phlox was truly beautiful. Apparently, it's open to the public as a courtesy. Thank you! Free parking is available, but it's best to check before you go. I went without checking, and the unpaved area and crowds were a real pain! I regret it. ⭐︎ Mishima, a Kutchan Town resident, graciously opens his moss phlox garden to the public at his home, which is a famous spot in Kutchan Town that heralds the arrival of late spring.
