Lead to Gold 3 - Filing Metal and Polishing. Part 3 of 4
Using a jewellers coping saw, the cast rings are cut off of the sprue base (excess gold). The sprue fragment still attached to the ring is then filed down with a flat bastard file until smooth. A series of sandpapers are used to file off the rough surface of the casting. The inside of each ring is also polished with a succession of sandpaper from 400- 1200 grit. Once the outside is polished to over a 1500 grit, it is ready for buffing.
