Function First Transmission Mount Inserts Porsche 911 Carrera Base/S/T/GTS 991 EASY DIY Manual PDK
If you’re looking to improve the feel of the shifts in your transmission, transmission mount inserts are one great way. The stock transmission mounts are rubber with hollow cavities. These inserts fill those cavities and are available in varying hardnesses. Because you’re filling these hollow cavities, more movement from the transmission is transferred throughout the vehicle. These are not for everyone especially if you don’t like the idea of a little increase in noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), but in my opinion, these changes only complement the 911 driving experience overall when coupled with the improvement in gear engagement. With sport exhaust turned on, it sounds more akin to a classic air-cooled racecar (although not to the extreme). I went with the softest one to minimize increases in NVH. Shifts are smoother, quicker, and more precise. Less of a thud and more of a vhip (I just made the spelling up of that sound). It’s truly transformative in how connected you feel to the car. Best of all it’s a cheap upgrade and an easy DIY with only a few tools. You can achieve even better gear engagement with the stiffer versions of these mounts but I honestly feel that these are good enough for street and moderate performance driving without the additional and possibly less desirable increased NVH. This DIY video I made shows you how easy they are to install and I provide a post-installation review and commentary at the end. I hope you enjoy! The following Torque Specs are NOT VALIDATED.
