Cape Town has a new strategy this fire season...
It's "fire season" and each year the amount of incidents increase. Last year from November until April, we had 9132 open-area vegetation fires. How will we handle it this year? Our Chief Fire Officer, Clinton Manuel, assembled his senior management team and studied the data from each and every incident. Then they came up with a strategy... We arrive quick at the incident location, but municipal fire engines are not designed to leave the roadway and drive up to the fire. Instead the crew needs to unroll and connect multiple hoses together until they actually reach the fire line. And if the fire jumps, valuable time gets wasted trying to catch up. So this year, we have a new secret weapon. It's time to call in the "Strike Team!"
