Wolverine: Adamantium Rage - Atop the Fourth Wall

When Linkara learns that Spoony is going to review a comic book, he decides he has to create his very own COMPLETELY ORIGINAL video game show! Originally uploaded May 15th, 2009. RUMINATIONS: Adamantium Rage, for the longest time, was unique for an episode of the show. Until the Frankenstein vs. the Space Monster review, it was the ONLY episode of the show that was about something OTHER than a comic. Mind you, that's because it was never originally meant to be an episode. Like many of the other crossovers done in part of the TGWTG 1st Anniversary, it was just supposed to be a fun little crossover. In my case, I wrote it to be a crossover in which the other participant, Spoony, didn't have to actually DO anything. The thing is that I was pretty much an ascended fan at the time - I had been on the site for a few months, but I was young and new to video-making and here were all these people who I had been entertained by and I was getting to hang out with them and become friends with them. Spoony in particular was someone whom I was a huge fan of (and still am, for that matter), so the episode was created with the idea of being a loving tribute - from the recreated theme song to the in-jokes to things he would reference. Even the opening bit with me talking to the camera in a t-shirt and telling a personal story was something I had noticed about his reviews and I was trying to emulate. Speaking of emulating, as I pointed out in the episode, the game was played and recorded off of an emulator. If I were to ever do another video game review, I doubt I could do that again, same goes for cheat codes. At the time, I didn't realize what kind of a stigma and, well, cheat that it was. It was disingenuous to play the game like that. That being said, Adamantium Rage really IS that frustrating a game - it was so when I was a kid and it still is even now. I'm very much a casual gamer, if I could even be described as a gamer, but comic book games were big for me as a kid even if I didn't read comic books at the time. I can't be certain why I decided to make it a proper episode of the show. Possibly it was because it was mostly me talking and not both Spoony and I together. Possibly it was because I got to keep the revenue for it (later crossovers would be given to TGWTG to help recomp the cost of flying 20 people from around the world out somewhere, lodging them for a week, and making a movie). Another big milestone for the show was that this was the first time that Linkara and Dr. Insano were in the same room together. While the storyline proper hasn't officially begun, the feud with Dr. Insano had already become an ongoing thing in the series. Spoony has always said that with Dr. Insano, there isn't any continuity to his origins or creation, but I always loved the idea that Linkara never realized that Spoony and Insano were the same person. Originally I was going to print out a picture of Spoony for the piece of paper and obviously that didn't end up happening so the horrible effect that you see in the video was what you got instead. And of course this is the origin of the ADAMANTIUM RAAAAGE! meme, which ironically uses music from an entirely different game - Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage. The bit with the AVGN punching Linkara was filmed in two takes while the main Brawl was being filmed, right outside the room. As always, the point is made clear that no matter how angry you get, no matter how much of a gamer you think you are or how pissed you can be at said game, the Nerd is always superior. And finally, this episode lead to one of the greatest and funniest crossovers I've ever had the honor to be a part of: WARRIOR #1.
