The Mafia Boss Who Ran an Empire From Prison (Lawrence Dentico)
Lawrence Dentico Lawrence "Little Larry" Dentico was one of the most influential members of the Genovese crime family during the reign of Vincent Gigante. A longtime capo who later became acting boss, Dentico was considered one of the key administrators of the Genovese organization during the 1980s and early 1990s. Federal authorities linked Dentico to racketeering activities, including extortion, illegal gambling operations, loansharking, labor racketeering, and organized crime conspiracy. Prosecutors described him as a major figure in the family's administration and criminal enterprises. Dentico became particularly notable during the government's effort to dismantle the Genovese hierarchy. In 1988, he was convicted in a major racketeering case targeting the family's leadership structure. Unlike flashy mobsters who sought publicity, Dentico developed a reputation as a behind-the-scenes strategist who helped coordinate criminal operations while maintaining a low profile.
