Trump calls on Congress to end birthright citizenship | FOX 10 Phoenix
The Supreme Court rejected President Donald Trump's argument that he could end birthright citizenship on his own through an executive order. Cheers erupted outside the Supreme Court when the 6-3 decision came in. Writing for the majority, Chief Justice John Roberts invoked the rights of citizens, writing: "The Framers of the Fourteenth Amendment extended that promise to ‘every free-born person in this land.'" Vice President J.D. Vance expressed White House frustration over the ruling, calling it "just a preposterous ruling." However, the administration is not throwing in the towel, with Vance stating, "We actually have an opportunity to reverse this decision. Just as we've reversed so many bad decisions throughout the generations." Trump also posted on Truth Social, urging Congress to start working on ending birthright citizenship today. House Speaker Mike Johnson promised to consider the matter but also sounded skeptical as a constitutional law attorney. Meanwhile, data shows that numbers have shifted through the years, with clear majorities now supporting birthright citizenship.
