Senator-Judge Alan Peter Cayetano addressed the NBI’s announcement of launching an investigation into the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, stating that he is not intimidated by it and that the decision to launch the said investigation is a misfire. Senator-Judge Alan questioned the timing of the NBI's announcement of its SEA Games investigation, noting that it came shortly after his remarks about NBI Director Melvin Matibag on Monday when he emphasized that senators, prosecutors, and House members continued to prioritize attending the impeachment trial despite numerous pressing national concerns. Cayetano noted that this act is part of the continuing efforts to create a chilling effect against members of the Senate minority bloc and reduce the number of senator-judges participating in the trial to affect the computation of the required two-thirds vote.
