The Last Days of Wimbledon Speedway

Wimbledon Speedway, home to 'Banger Racing' and the last of its kind in London, was built in 1928 and demolished in 2017, to make way for the new Wimbledon AFC football stadium. Featuring interviews and action from the speedway's terminal race and a soundtrack by london based band Ad Undas, the film bears witness to the death of a pastime in the nation's capital that, at its peak, thrilled thousands. It is a paean to niche pursuits, the family ties that keep them alive and a plaintive plea for their conservation in the face of gentrification. Many thank to the Gray & Roberts families, as well as the extended Plough Lane community, without whom this film would not have been possible.
