Genome-to-Genome Distance Calculator 3.0 - eDDH

Genome-to-Genome Distance Calculator (GGDC) 3.0 is an advanced bioinformatics web tool for estimating digital DNA–DNA hybridization (dDDH) values between prokaryotic genomes. It is widely used in microbial taxonomy for species and subspecies delineation based on whole-genome comparisons. In this video, we demonstrate how GGDC 3.0 computes genome distances using different formulas based on high-scoring segment pairs (HSPs) and converts them into DDH-like similarity values. The tool provides statistically robust results, including confidence intervals, making it one of the most reliable platforms for genome-based species classification. GGDC is developed by the DSMZ (German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures) and is a core tool in modern genome taxonomy workflows, often used alongside ANI-based methods. 👉 Ideal for microbiologists, bioinformaticians, and researchers working on bacterial systematics and genome classification.
