Weress - Rêvasseries Chevaleresques (full album, 2024)

Sunday For my final feature of DS Sunday this week, it is my pleasure to preset the spectacularly enchanting new album from Weress, the dungeon synth project of John Lordswood. Rêvasseries Chevaleresques (Chivalrous Revelries) is an album of celestial melancholic ambience, lifted with shimmering melodies that is equal parts nostalgic video game soundtrack, expansive emotive cinematic score and atmospheric incidental music, combined into a singular vision of dungeon synth that is uniquely innovative and enthralling. With some serendipity, the artwork for Rêvasseries Chevaleresques is created by Joan Llopis Doménech who also illustrated the cover of The Crippled God which I also selected for this week’s DSS session. The lone figure casting a regal, magical light into an inky pool of reflected starlight and cosmic spirits captures the character of the album with a suitably spellbound charm. Th album is available in digital format now from the Weress bandcamp. Cassette, CD and Wooden Box editions are coming in April 2024 on Lordswood’s Ancient King Records.
