#MT13 - Making an Apron Gear Cover for my Sieg mini lathe. By Andrew Whale.
I hope you like this video of me making an Apron Gear Cover for my Sieg SC3 mini lathe. There are already several videos covering this subject, but I don't think there are any that are specific to the SC3 mini lathe which has a cover over the lead screw. The lead screw cover reduces the gap between the cover and the apron to around 1mm. To get over this restriction I used a 0.5mm thick (thin?) piece of Lexon Polycarbinate sheet which worked a treat. The polycarbonate is flexible, yet strong. Being flexible also allows for a bit of give if the gears protrude slightly above the apron housing. My original plan was to attach the sheet to the apron using a mixture of double sided tape and hot glue. This didn't work very well, so I ended up tapping the apron and fixing the cover with M3 screws. The final result works very well - so I am well pleased. For more details on how to take the Apron off an re-install it, please check out my other video at: • #MT6 - Mini Lathe - Half Nut Problem. By A...
