The Hebrew calendar differs from the one we use today, as it is divided into hours and vigils. To better understand the Bible, we must understand how day and night are divided, so that some passages can be interpreted more clearly. Matthew 20:1-16 1 For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2 After agreeing with the workers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 Going out about noon, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace. 4 He said to them, “You also go into my vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.” So they went. 5 He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same. 6 Going out about the eleventh hour, he found others standing idle. He asked them, “Why have you been standing here idle all day?” 7 They answered, “Because no one has hired us.” He replied, “You also go into the vineyard, and you will receive whatever is right.” 8 When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, “Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.” 9 Those hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius. 10 So when those hired first came, they expected to receive more, but each of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they grumbled against the landowner, 12 saying, “These last men worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.” 13 He answered one of them, “Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Didn’t you agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what belongs to you and go. I want to give to this last man the same as I gave to you. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?” 16 So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few are chosen. #StudyingTheHolyScriptures
