Sketched in 1792 in Bonn, just before Beethoven went to Vienna to "receive the spirit of Mozart from the hands of Haydn", the Fourteen Variations in E flat Major Op. 44 achieve a synthesis between Haydn's writing and the integration of Mozart's characteristic piano and string instruments textures.
