ARANETA AVENUE DRAINAGE REHABILITATION AND FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT 🌊 Welcome back to another infrastructure and development update! Today, we return to G. Araneta Avenue in Quezon City to check on the latest situation surrounding one of Metro Manila's most important flood mitigation projects. As of April 2026, the area continues to show signs of ongoing activity, even after the Department of Public Works and Highways officially announced the completion of the main drainage expansion works in February 2026. 🚧🇵🇭 For many years, G. Araneta Avenue has been notorious for severe flooding during heavy rainfall. This major thoroughfare serves as a critical link between Quezon City, Manila, and neighboring districts, yet it has long been vulnerable to floodwaters that could rise to extraordinary levels. During intense storms, motorists often found themselves trapped in traffic while floodwaters inundated large sections of the roadway. In some cases, flood levels became so severe that vehicles were stranded and public transportation services were disrupted, affecting thousands of commuters and nearby communities. 🌧️🚗🌊 Recognizing the urgent need for a long-term solution, the government launched a massive drainage rehabilitation and expansion project in 2025 under the leadership of the DPWH. The centerpiece of the project involved replacing the old and undersized drainage system with two new 1.5-meter diameter high-density polyethylene drainage lines. These new pipes were designed to significantly increase the corridor's floodwater carrying capacity and improve the movement of stormwater toward downstream waterways. 🏗️🔧 By February 2026, DPWH officials announced that the primary drainage expansion works had been completed. The installation of the major drainage lines was finished, and significant portions of the roadway were reopened to normal traffic. This milestone marked a major achievement in the government's ongoing efforts to address chronic flooding along one of Metro Manila's most flood-prone corridors. ✅🚦 However, as we can see during this April 2026 update, work activities remain visible in several sections of the corridor. This does not necessarily mean that the main drainage project was unfinished. Instead, it reflects the reality that large-scale flood control projects often continue beyond the completion of their primary components. While the major underground drainage system may already be operational, supporting works are still being carried out to maximize the effectiveness of the entire flood management network. 🌊⚙️ Along portions of G. Araneta Avenue, construction barriers remain in place, creating protected work zones adjacent to active traffic lanes. Large drainage components and construction materials can still be observed in designated areas, indicating that crews continue to perform related activities such as final drainage connections, catch basin improvements, utility adjustments, roadway restoration, and other supporting infrastructure works. 🚧👷♂️ As of April 2026, the overall transformation of G. Araneta Avenue is becoming increasingly apparent. The corridor that once struggled with a severely undersized drainage network is now supported by modern infrastructure designed to address both present and future flood challenges. While some construction-related activities remain visible, the project has clearly progressed far beyond the heavy excavation phase that characterized much of 2025 and early 2026. 🚀🏗️ 🛣️ Road Trip Videos April 2026 • G.
