3 Alternatives to Buttonholes (+ how to handsew a buttonhole!)
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! Today's video is more like a tutorial video (but please excuse, I haven't really made many of these videos before, so I'm still working out how to do them!). First, I show you how I do a handsewn buttonhole. I have used these on a few garments, most notably my 19th century waistcoat. They can provide a really pretty, strong and functional finish. However, they do take a long time! (at least for me!) So throughout my costume making years, I also ended up favouring some alternatives for whenever I had a button closure. In order of explanation through the video, the button loop, the chain-stitch carrier, and then ribbon/tape loops. These are different from buttonholes in that they do not require the fabric/closure to overlap, and instead they are just adjoining, so you may need to work out their spacing very carefully. Also a disclaimer that this is how I do things, and not by any means the right/correct/traditional way to do them. If you do any of these things differently, do let me know, I love to hear about other methods! I hope this is helpful for anyone wanting a quicker solution than buttonholes :) -- THINGS MENTIONED -- Witchy Dress Video Part 1 • Making a Dark Academia/Witch Cottagecore D...
