For PC: Tissot PR-516 "Roger Moore" Bond with Cal. 2511 Restoration, October 7, 2025
As seen in the James Bond movie 'Live & Let Die', we have a rare Swiss visitor to this Seiko-centric watch bench. Roger Moore, the third actor to play the character of James Bond, wore one of these in 'Live & Let Die'. I believe he simply wore his own watch and it became part of the costume, as he was pictured in other movies and out in public wearing the model. The Tissot PR-516 is an automatic & hand-winding mechanical wristwatch in a solid stainless case with an acrylic crystal that uses a metal rehaut (aka chapter ring in my mind) as a tension ring with a snap-on plastic rotating ring. The movement is a fully-jeweled automatic handwinder with date quickset (the quickset is prevented from functioning in this model as it is push-to-set and the crown on this model sits flush with the case). The caseback gasket sits in a channel created by the inner lip of the case, which overlaps onto a matching channel in the plastic movement ring, which then acts as shock protection as well as waterproofing the case. In this watch, all the original gaskets had deteriorated into a black goo that took forever to remove, including the crown gasket. I needed to resort to chemically dissolving the stuff to get it out. The case has no pitting or corrosion damage; all sealing surfaces are intact. The Tissot movement came out very well, aside from the dead minute wheel, with amplitudes in the 270s & 280s, with winding spikes into the 290s. Zero beat error, flat accuracy dial-up and dial-down. Excellent numbers and positional accuracies. The minute wheel was missing close to half of its teeth, all broken off, and oddly I didn’t find a single one inside the movement, just the broken wheel itself. Finding a replacement wheel was difficult as this part is long out of production. I was able to find a replacement sold overseas. There was a final tariff charge of $22 that I needed to pay directly to UPS to get the package released. As we discussed, I polished the original crystal and reinstalled. There are some scratches and marks on the crystal still but visually it’s clear and physically it is functional, without cracks or other internal flaws. www.kleinvintagewatch.com / kleinvintagewatch https://www.instagram.com/ No ammonites were harmed in the making of this video.
