Have you ever been scammed out of a few hundred baht (300, 500 baht) and been too lazy to report it to the police because you thought, "Never mind, it's just a little money, consider it charity"? 🚫 This is the very mindset that fuels these scammers! Today, I want to share a case study illustrating how "small-time scammers" (solo players) operate and why you have a much higher chance of recovering your money compared to call center scams! 🔍 Case Study: Injured Cat Drama... Ends with Blocking This incident occurred in a "LINE group for parents of ROTC students" (a niche group seemingly trustworthy). Creating a pitiful story: The scammer infiltrated the group, posting an urgent plea for help, claiming "a cat was injured by a dog and urgently needed medical treatment." Small Amount: The request was small, causing the victim (a parent) to feel sorry for the victim and transfer 500 baht. Block Immediately After Transfer: Once the money was received, the scammer immediately blocked all contact and provided no updates on the cat's condition. 💡 Analysis: Why are "these kinds of scammers" so easy to track down? These scammers differ from transnational call center gangs in these ways: ✅ 1. They usually use "real accounts" (not fake accounts): Large gangs hire people to open fake accounts, but these are "day-time thieves" who often use accounts in their own names or those of relatives because it's easier and doesn't require investing in buying accounts (in this case, the recipient's account name is Sirinaj Thammanawat). ✅ 2. They exploit the victims' "laziness to pursue": Do the math... Scamming 500 baht per person x 10 people = 5,000 baht (much easier than a daily wage job). Of those 10 people, maybe 9 will just let it go. Only 1 will report it to the police. The end: As soon as they know someone has reported them and frozen their account, they'll quickly contact that person to "return the money" so they can withdraw the report and continue scamming others! 🛡️ Don't let these scammers get away! If you let it go, you're helping them scam hundreds more people! Even small amounts must be reported: File a police report online at thaipoliceonline.go.th Freeze accounts: Once you receive the official account freeze order from the bank, their accounts will become unusable (including all banking apps under their name). Force them to repay: When they can't access the money, they will have to find a way to contact you and return it. In short: These scammers are afraid of people taking action. The more you pursue them, the more scared they become. If you've been scammed for a few hundred baht, don't give up.
