Welcome to RegioVibesBE. Walk with us across the sacred, serene ground of the Rieme-Oostakker Execution Site. In this in-depth and respectful historical documentary, we take you along the route that 66 resistance fighters had to walk during the Second World War. Between February 1943 and August 1944, these heroes were executed here by the German occupiers for their unconditional courage and resistance. We discover the impressive stories behind the memorials, weave our way past the rows of wooden crosses, and manually weigh away the autumn leaves to make the hidden history beneath the Rieme memorial stone tangible once again. After all, here we also commemorate the 20 additional victims of the vanished execution site in the port of Ghent. Finally, we come face to face with the poignant monument by Geo Vindevogel ("The Gagged Prisoner") and walk down the chilling path to the ultimate symbol of the deportations: an original wooden train carriage from 1911.
