Your partner's scrolling through Instagram. Suddenly they stop. And stay on a single photo. After a while, you can't help but wonder: Who are they looking at? Is it a friend? A family member? Or is it an ex? Someone new? Someone you've never met? As crazy as it sounds, you can more or less figure this out, today, right now — and with uncanny accuracy — with the right equipment. That is one of the startling conclusions of a study by Thirza Dado and her colleagues at the Donders Institute for brain, cognition and behavior in Nijmegen, Netherlands. Their experiment begins with an MRI. Where it ends... no one's really sure yet. However you look at it, the implications of "neural decoding" are big.
