Glucksmann, ambiguïtés géopolitiques
While not yet officially a candidate for the presidential election, Raphaël Glucksmann no longer hides his determination to run. Although his foreign policy platform remains to be defined, his public statements already reveal its main orientations: defense of democracy and human rights, firmness towards Russia and China, opposition to Donald Trump, but also a commitment to the alliance with the United States. This approach is rooted in the intellectual lineage of his father, André Glucksmann, and in a Western, Atlanticist, and neoconservative tradition. His past involvement in Georgia, alongside a government criticized by Amnesty International for its human rights record, illustrates the initial contradictions in his stance. Raphaël Glucksmann advocates a universalist diplomacy, but this sometimes seems applied selectively. He is very critical of Russian and Chinese interference, but much less so of interference from other powers, such as Israel. Similarly, while deeply committed to defending human rights regarding the Uyghurs and Ukraine, he appears less assertive when it comes to the Palestinians, Gaza, or the West Bank. Between a Western heritage, Atlanticism, and a desire to align himself with a left-wing tradition, what will be the true diplomatic direction should Glucksmann become a candidate? Can universalism remain credible when it is not applied with the same rigor to all crises?
