On the night of May 30, 1961, eleven men changed the history of the Dominican Republic forever. They assassinated Rafael Leónidas Trujillo, the dictator who ruled the country with an iron fist for 31 years. But what followed was a nightmare. Of the eleven conspirators, only two lived to tell the tale. The others were hunted down, tortured, and executed. Six of them died that same night—November 18, 1961—at the hands of Ramfis Trujillo, the tyrant's son, at Hacienda María. Their bodies were never found.
