What's up guys, it’s Ollie from History Profiles and today I will be taking you to 14th century France where the last trial by combat would take place. The Trial by combat was an ancient method of Germanic law to settle accusations in the absence of witnesses. This would result in a duel between 2 single warriors and the winner would be proclaimed to be right. During the life of the warrior Sir Jean de Carrouges, he would live though many wars and campaigns, being the veteran of many battles. For he lived during the time of the Hundred Year’s war, and need it be said that it was a time of betrayal, strife and blood lust. He would be immortalized for his deeds in life, but mostly for the final trial by combat to officially take place in France, the circumstances that lead to this duel have gone down in legend. This is a tale of two fierce friends and how jealousy, lust and pride would result in death. This is their story.
