"Piney Ridge" - Old-Time Fiddle
Here's Piney Ridge from William Hamilton Stepp (1875 - 1957) of Magoffin County, Kentucky. Tuning is DDAD William was well acquainted with John Salyer (1882 - 1952), a legendary East Kentucky fiddler who had the oldest repertoire of Appalachian music ever known to exist. They were good friends and spend a lot of their time playing music together, they also played in fiddle contests at local festivals, though Stepp was more fond of that than Salyer was. William also briefly made records, but then soon found out that the people who where producing them where profiting much more than the fiddlers themselves, so He then quit the profession, Salyer was also offered a contract as well. Though Salyer didn't fall for it and never made records, He did do homemade field recordings with his sons, Glen and Grover.
