I went to Endo Shoten, a legendary udon restaurant in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, that's only open on weekends, on my CT125 Hunter Cub. I rode up Prefectural Road 66 towards Lake Umeda, then turned onto Prefectural Road 343, and Endo Shoten was on my right. My goal was to try their extra-wide noodles, which are said to be a rare treat, with only one in eight people getting them. Since there were five of us on this trip, I thought someone would get the winning noodles, and Wine, who came all the way from Tokyo, was the lucky one! The udon is made with a blend of several local flours, and is characterized by its strong chewiness and sweetness. Their specialty is daikon radish tempura. The sweetness is incredible—you wouldn't believe it's daikon—so you should definitely try it. After the meal, we rode along the Sankyo Forest Road. The weather was bad, with thick fog, and the temperature was in the single digits...it was unseasonably cold, but thanks to my Hunter Cub, I was able to enjoy the ride.
