By Dawn's Early Light: Command and Control Cut

By Dawn’s Early Light may not be a perfect film, but it’s a guilty pleasure of mine that I often revisit. While the command and control storyline constitutes a gripping thriller in and of itself, the secondary plot involving Major Cassidy and Captain Moreau has always felt less compelling. The decision to turn their bomber around after receiving the go-code is powerful, but much of what follows seems driven more by drama than cohesive storytelling. Plus, their relationship never quite lands convincingly. So, for my own enjoyment (and maybe yours), I created this edit that focuses on the elements I find most engaging: the early chaos, the struggle for control, and the military effort to stop a nuclear war. If you enjoy this cut, I encourage you to seek out the original movie as well, as this underappreciated classic deserves all the attention it can get. I hope you enjoy! _________ Nuclear war--a nightmare that may become a grim reality for the world in this riveting thriller. When a fanatical group opposed to friendly U.S./Soviet relations detonates a nuclear warhead over a Russian city, it begins a chain reaction of accusations and actions that begin the groundwork for WWIII. As the clock ticks toward total nuclear annihilation, the American president and the Soviet president race toward a solution, fighting with their own camps as well as with each other.
