The Stairs Of Death Of Mauthausen

Throughout the Second World War, there were many different execution methods used to condemn prisoners inside of concentration camps. The SS guards were brutal and barbaric, and inside of Mauthausen the conditions were horrific. It was one of the most brutal sites, and in this was a structure known as the Stairs of Death. These were 186 steps in which prisoners were forced to walk up many times a day, and this was horrific. But also SS guards would use the Stairs of Death as a ruthless execution method as inmates would be thrown off the cliff by the SS guards. They played a sick game known as 'The Parachutists Wall,' and this was a structure which would become infamous inside of the concentration camps.
