Thirty-six conduct violations. Guilty on thirty-two. And Mackenzie Shirilla’s mother told her on a monitored prison call that rehabilitation programs are for “actual criminals” — not her daughter. The woman convicted of killing two people at a hundred miles an hour doesn’t think she needs to be rehabilitated. And her family agrees. The data recorder in Shirilla’s car captured what she never told anyone herself. Accelerator at full capacity. Zero braking. A straight line aimed at a commercial building in Strongsville, Ohio. Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan were pronounced dead at the scene. A judge called Shirilla “literal hell on wheels.” Weeks before the fatal crash, a family friend heard Shirilla screaming that she would wreck her car with Russo inside. She’d driven to the same dead-end road days before the fatal night — what many now call a rehearsal drive. On monitored jail calls, Shirilla and her mother Natalie communicated in a fabricated coded language that investigators eventually cracked. According to prosecutors, those decoded exchanges revealed Shirilla asking whether they could tell police she’d had a seizure before the crash. That seizure claim became her defense. Her attorneys argued a blood pressure condition called POTS caused a blackout. The judge didn’t buy it. Inside the Ohio Reformatory for Women, nothing has shifted. A fellow inmate compared Shirilla to Regina George — daily makeup routines, social positioning, running the facility like a high school hallway. No acknowledgment of what brought her there. Natalie Shirilla has called the Russo family “evil” on a recorded line. Shirilla’s father Steve appeared in a Netflix documentary defending his daughter, told cameras he had no issue with her substance use, and lost his teaching position at a Catholic school as a result. The Ohio Supreme Court declined Shirilla’s appeal. Her earliest parole eligibility is 2037.
